Disability Program
North Miami Beach is dedicated to providing recreational facilities and programming that meet the needs of all its residents. With the steadfast support of City Councilman Myron Rosner, the Parks and Recreation Department has developed the North Miami Beach Disability Sports Program to meaningfully impact the quality of life for this often under-served population. The program features a state of the art multi-purpose gym with a magnum/universal weight machine, free weights, inter active game cube cycle, hand cycles and other personal work out equipment.
For those who chose to venture outside of our gym we offer wheelchair tennis, tandem biking for the visually impaired and hand cycles for bicycling on North Miami Beach's scenic bike path.
We also feature the Vida-Glide fitness work out program, which is designed to provide a demanding cardiovascular workout, helps tone the upper body and rehabilitates shoulder injuries.
In the interest of providing a viable means of reducing barriers to recreation the City introduced this program in 2006. Sessions are currently taking place every Friday, Saturday and Monday. Currently there are 26 participants (all adults) who are becoming part of a support system that will help them learn new skills, empower them to interact independently, and offer access to a wide array of recreation, leisure, social and vocational opportunities.
The North Miami Beach Disability Sports Program is open to all adults who are able to get to our facility. All components are supervised by trained professional personnel and all equipment and supplies are provided free of charge. Additional information may be obtained on our web site at www.citynmb.com or call (305) 948-2957.
